WHO WE ARE

Taabu isn't aid.
It's agency.

We're a grassroots sanctuary for families who've been uprooted by war, loss, and forced displacement. We exist for the mothers rebuilding from nothing, and the children navigating life after everything familiar has been stripped away.

We're not here to save anyone. We're here to walk beside them — to hold space, not control it.

We represent anyone who's ever had to leave home with more questions than belongings.

Taabu stands for the displaced, the uprooted, and the in-between. Not just where they came from—but everything they still carry, and everything they're still becoming.

"We work for a world where no one is defined by what they've been through."

HOW TAABU STARTED

My name is Maryam. In December 2023, I packed up my life and flew to Cairo — just a regular person that did not have a plan, but with an intention and conviction that I had to show up for families fleeing unimaginable loss.

At first, it was about the basics: food, medicine, a safe place to sleep. But I quickly realized that staying alive isn't the same as truly living. These families, especially the mothers and children, were carrying invisible wounds that no amount of aid could reach.

Then came Ramadan. We hosted an iftar gathering — and for the first time in weeks, there was laughter. Kids ran freely without worry. Parents shared stories. Something shifted. I saw light return to their eyes.

That night, the seed for Taabu Club was planted.

We're here because survival is just the beginning. People deserve more — space to breathe, to belong, and to imagine a life after loss.
